Today is release day for Jacqueline Houtman's THE REINVENTION OF EDISON THOMAS (Front Street). Already receiving deserved rave reviews, "EDDY" is a terrific book that will touch your heart. Here's a brief synopsis:

Eddy Thomas can read a college physics book, but he can't read the emotions on the faces of his classmates at Drayton Middle School. He can spend hours tinkering with an invention, but he can't stand more than a few minutes in a noisy crowd, like the crowd at the science fair, which Eddy fails to win.

For today's launch, we're sponsoring a contest. Above is a photo of the amazing prize pack, awarded to a randomly chosen commenter. We also have a question for you to answer:

"If you could invent anything, what would it be?"

The prize pack:

1 EDDY ARC (signed)
2 EDDY bookmarks (signed, too, if requested)
2 handy-dandy Fahrenheit/Celsius conversion bookmarks printed on heat-sensitive color-changing paper
1 Thomas Edison quote sticker
10 UV-sensitive beads

Congratulations to both Jacqueline and Eddy!

Great contest and a big hooray for Jacqueline and Eddy. This is an amazing book!

What would I invent? A machine to clone me. That way one me could drive carpools and supervise the kids, but the other me could hunker down and have unlimited time to write!

I'd invent a universal translator. It might put an end to people assuming that speech or language differences are a symptom of stupidity. It might unlock a lot of wonderful inventions and ideas that get lost in the static.

I'd invent something so that I didn't have to sleep, ever, and still be fine and healthy. I feel like there's never enough time in my day and if I could just get those sleeping hours back, life would be a peach! :-)

What would I invent? Something that cleans my house! or at least empties the dishwasher - one of those routine chores I hate. I'd also invent something that would keep my children warm in the winter without huge bulky winter coats snowpants and boat. They really get old!

Congrats on release day! The book looks awesome!
Um...someone stole my two inventions: a universal translator and a way to avoid sleeping.... Gosh, guys, thanks a lot. And I thought I was original.
Passing on that...I'd invent a thought translator...for myself. Someway to keep the swirling, disorganized thoughts in my head in some semblance of order.

Awesome contest! I can't wait to read this.

I'd like to be the person to invent the Time Machine. Or a cellular transporter. lol

I would invent a way to freeze time so I could get things done without the clock ticking. Or maybe just so I could get a little extra sleep on Monday mornings!

Since Willy Wonka already stole the Neverending Gobstopper, I would have to invent a dream recorder for those days where you know you just woke up from something wonderful and can't seem to remember anything about it.

Yay for EDDY! I would invent a teleportation machine. If I could just cut down on all this TRAVEL time, I could get so much more accomplished!!

=)
if international entrants are allowed then count me in.

If i could invent something, i would create either a machine that makes whatever food/drink you crave, (iced coffees any time you want? nice!)or a machine that gives you books instantly, and it creates the profits to give to the author/publisher etc. Though, i do wish i could invent the whole harry potter world. :)

If I could invent anything, it would be Time Travel. I would love to see the world and not have to pay anything to do it.

Congratulations on your launch week. There are so many exciting inventions with technology right now that I have a hard time trying to think of something else to invent. Anything to promote tolerance would be an ideal invention.

If I could have invented anything, I would have started Microsoft, so I could be as wealthy as Bill Gates. It sounds selfish, but I would give a lot away and not waste such moolah on stupid stuff. Besides, I am going to be an English teacher. That's not something you do for the money. Not that I mind; It's just nice to dream!

These are some great inventions! Yes...clone myself, time travel, love the universal translator and the cure and, absolutely, tolerance - and let's hear it for the teachers.

We're going to close the contest Friday at midnight! Thanks to all for commenting so far.
