I'd love to read Haven by Beverly Patt because I'm also writing a YA novel with a 14 year old protagonist who runs away, and I'd like to see how this author built up to her climax.

Three of the books listed (Heart of a Shepherd, The Year the Swallows Came Early, Also Known as Harper) are being used in my school's Mock Newbery Club. I can tell you I loved the realism in Heart of a Shepherd. Swallows was one that kept me wondering what would happen next in those children's lives. Harper made me cry, a lot. One of the three is in the lead to "win" at our school!

What an interesting sounding book. Question started flying in my head. Who is the mountain woman and what is her secret. What connection is there between Annie and this woman. I would love to win this book.
